Chicago Aikikai members Dwight Sora and Christian Boswell will facilitate a workshop introducing aikido concepts to actors for use in stage combat and fight choreography, as well as a means of focusing and relaxing, on Friday, September 29 from 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm. Chicago Aikikai received a warm reception for its two demos at this year’s Ginza Holiday Japanese cultural festival held by Midwest Buddhist Temple (MBT) on Friday, August 11 and Saturday, August 12. The weekend overall was reportedly a big success for the temple, which is good news as it is their major annual fundraiser and they have not held it since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic. Chicago Aikikai members who participated or were in attendance had the opportunity to enjoy the food, as well as purchase some of the Japanese arts and crafts for sale. Aikido Shimbokukai reports there was a great turnout at the on Sunday, July 30. 60 people attended in-person along with 15 via Zoom. Thank you to all of the organizers, instructors and participants who helped to make it a success. Photos viewable at the Aikido Shimbokukai Facebook page.
