Chicago Aikikai members Dwight Sora and Christian Boswell will facilitate a workshop introducing aikido concepts to actors for use in stage combat and fight choreography, as well as a means of focusing and relaxing, on Friday, September 29 from 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm. Those interested are asked to pre-register here. The dojo is requesting a $15.00 suggested donation for the workshop.
Dwight Sora is a 3rd degree black belt in aikido, which he has studied for 30 years since starting at Waseda University and World Aikido Headquarters in Tokyo. He has put his skills to use as an actor-combatant at Lifeline Theatre, Theatre-Hikes and Lyric Opera Chicago. He has also provided culturally-specific Japanese fight choreography and consulting for Porchlight Music Theatre and Mercury Theater Chicago.
Christian Boswell is an Advanced Actor Combatant with the Society of American Fight Directors and proud employee of Rogue Steel. He is ecstatic to further study the melding of these two arts and is closing in on 1 year training alongside Chicago Aikikai. He is inspired by other aikidoka Fight Directors such as Sean Micheal Chin for helping plant the seeds for this workshop.
