Kagami Biraki 2023
Chicago Aikikai members and guests gathered to celebrate Kagami Biraki at their Third Friday class on Friday, January 20, 2023.
Rotating instruction was provided by Marsha Turner (Chief Instructor and Dojo-cho), Edward Reiff, Andrew Vitale, Dwight Sora, Qin Coe, Patrick Miller and Rob Brose. Class was followed by a potluck dinner.
Basic Japanese Terms and Etiquette for Aikido
This month’s 3rd Friday class (November 18, 2022) will be led by Chicago Aikikai member Satoko Ogura Bourdaghs. The class will cover the basics of Japanese etiquette and language as they are used in aikido practice. Some of the topics Satoko will cover are proper bowing, addressing one another, uniform wear and care, and showing respect. She will also offer tips on helping to remember aikido techniques.

Third Friday Practice
All Aikido friends are invited to join us each third Friday at 6:30 till around 8:00 pm, for our monthly special practice.
And then the festivities will begin.
We will enjoy getting together around a potluck of beverages, dinner, and desserts, after class. So, it would be great if you are able to bring a dish or some beverage.
If you’ve been wondering about aikido or Chicago Aikikai, this would be a great chance to meet us, please drop in!
